In the early 80s, after working on projects such as the Oakview Medical Center and the Martin Marietta Quarry (across from Fiesta Texas), we opted to focus our efforts and passion on specialty lighting. 

To date, AMLLD has designed and installed lighting for numerous sports courts, tennis courts, baseball, soccer fields and social venues.  We have done lighting projects in every corner of Texas, as well as Oklahoma, Arizona, Oregon, and Nevada.

In landscape lighting design is the key. Our proprietary design system blends years of experience with the latest technology. We start with a high definition overhead drone image of your property, layer on specific light arrays to indicate the color of light and the area to be illuminated. We can then select the proper fixtures and quantities, calculate the electrical and control cost and present you with a complete digital design. Our proposal is always turn key for a complete installation. Our fixtures are always unit priced so if you want to add or deduct a fixture you know up front what the cost or credit will be, if there are any changes before or during the installation you will know exactly what to expect.

I began my electrical career in about 1971 doing industrial maintenance for McDonough Bros. Limestone quarry in San Antonio and later moved on to Featherlite building products and to Capitol Aggregates in Austin where I was in charge of maintenance and production.

In 1975 I started my own electrical contracting company and shortly thereafter while working for the McNay, Whitte, and the Museum of Art. I was fortunate to begin doing installations for the John Watson Landscape Illumination company. John Watson (1922-2005) was the visionary landscape architect that began the landscape lighting industry in 1952, and has been long recognized as the worldwide leader. In those days mercury vapor was the fixture of choice and not much else. With my electrical expertise and his classic “Moonlight” designs we installed thousands of fixtures in Austin, Houston, San Antonio and South Texas.  

About 20 years ago I began doing my own designs and installations turn-key. We branched out using different types of fixtures and doing lighting projects, such as sculptures, buildings, sports fields, bridges, and other outdoor structures. In about 2008 we began using LED fixtures and there were many challenges to find the quality and type of fixture to use.  We constantly are looking at the latest products with the most efficient and effective light as the LED industry is still rapidly changing.

It was during this time I was introduced to the Vistpro line of landscape lighting products and my friend Dan Cunado. Dan and I had similar roots as he began his career as an electrician also doing lighting installations for John Watson in California. I believe that his insight into the industry is why Vistapro has the largest selection, best warranty and service in the industry. Vista products are American made from the circuit boards to the castings. Their on-demand production facility can produce and ship most of their vast line of fixtures within 24 hours and at a rate of over 1000 fixtures a day. Combined with our warehouse and truck stock of about 400 fixtures we have unparalleled service and installation capabilities. 

We also offer custom designed fixture fabrication and UL listed LED retro-fit kits for any fixture. Some restrictions as to quantities and delivery schedules apply.
